Welcome to An Indigo Affair!

I'll share with you a little about myself and my background...

From an early age, creativity and art have always played an important role in my life. When I was in kindergarten, I drew people's faces in profile, which apparently you didn't automatically do at that age. So my parents were encouraged to send me to art lessons, which I loved.

By the time I was about 9 years old, I won a scholarship for a year's free tuition at the Queensland Art Museum. Now in those days it was housed in the basement of the actual Queensland Museum (yes, the one with "taxidermied" animals and mummies). A very scary place in the early hours of a Saturday morning before opening to the public. But I loved every minute of it. After completing my schooling, I went to art college and studied graphic arts (which I didn't finish), then promptly joined the workforce to earn some "real" money.

But art has always had a way of popping up in my life. Whether it's just doing it for myself or family and friends and occasionally for actual money.

I spent an entire marathon year doing portraits for my children's friends and their families. It ended up being NINETY-SIX portraits in total! Funnily enough, I've never done my own children!

Now, I'll skip to the last few years which have been a bit stressful. Firstly, I lost my mum (and later my dad), resigned from my dream job to take care of my dad, sold our house, moved into the new house which we were renovating! But the good thing was, I spent so many hours chatting with my dad, that he encouraged me to do my artwork again. He spurred me on as he was always so proud of my paintings. He wanted to open a gallery in his house! HA! Bless him! (Always the cheerleader!)

So what I did do, which is what I always do, is produce art for my own house. Now, this happens to be in the Hampton's style, and as this style is so hot right now, I thought that I'd share it with you... so here it is! Some in oil and acrylic, but the bulk of my work lately has been in watercolours, and mainly my love of all things blue and white, hence the name "An Indigo Affair".

Up until recently the majority of my work has been quite formal, but I've been lured back into the beautiful clean world of watercolours and have produced a series of small ginger jars and vases. The most recent my "Blue Belly" series. I decided to put a quirky twist on the familiar and much loved ginger jar paintings.

Later on, I'll share some of my other larger canvases with you. So stay tuned...

I'm based in Brisbane, Australia, so please feel free to DM me if you have any questions. I hope you share my love of blue and white and enjoy my work.

With Love Jude
